Patricia M. O’Donnell, PLA, FASLA, AICP, F.US/ICOMOS, preservation landscape architect and urban planner, founded Heritage Landscapes LLC in 1987. Traditional historic preservation coupled with sustainability, biodiversity and resilience are hallmarks of her works for Jackson Park, Shelburne Farms, Planting Fields, the Capitol Grounds and several national parks. Holding MLA and MUP degrees, Patricia has led efforts for ASLA, ICOMOS, IFLA, OurWorldHeritage and UNESCO World Heritage to advance the multiple values of bio-cultural landscape heritage for the future. She received the 2023 ASLA Medal for career contributions, and the 2021 National Trust for Historic Preservation Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award. Her contributions demonstrate commitment, thought leadership and professional skills that revitalize our shared commons for planet and people in the USA and around the globe.

Peter F. Viteretto, PLA, FASLA, Principal and ASLA Fellow, leads the Heritage Landscapes office in Norwalk, CT contributing to award-winning projects since 1993. As a project landscape architect, Peter crafts processes that integrate compatible new design within historic settings, achieving preservation, sustainability, biodiversity and resilience goals to benefit people and planet. Projects address uplifting Independence National Historical Park, Planting Fields, Vizcaya, Meridian Hill Park, US Capitol Grounds, Niagara Falls State Park, Saint Gaudens National Historical Park and many more. In addition to collaboration with clients, Peter shares expert preservation and construction knowledge on Norwalk’s Tree Advisory Committee and the Merritt Parkway Advisory Committee as CT-ASLA representative, furthering the awareness and values of landscape architecture within the community.

Gregory W. De Vries, PLA, ASLA, Managing Partner, guides projects through his specialized expertise in the stewardship of heritage communities and cultural landscapes of all sizes. Greg’s work activates context sensitive development, historic site rehabilitation and compliance, cultural resource conservation and management, nature-culture integrated design and actionable project implementation. Holding Masters degrees in landscape architecture from the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability and cultural anthropology from the University of Florida, Greg has applied his skillsets at multidisciplinary design firms in the US and Caribbean, beginning with Heritage Landscapes in 2004. He serves as an Expert Member of the ICOMOS-IFLA International Scientific Committee of Cultural Landscapes, VTASLA Historic American Landscape Survey Committee and ASLA Historic Preservation PPN Leadership Team.

Emma Bruce

Emma Bruce, Affiliate ASLA, serves as Project Support Staff at Heritage Landscapes, where she contributes to essential archival research, fieldwork, writing and analysis to inform the design and management of numerous historic and cultural landscapes. Her recent contributions include the Bok Tower Gardens CLR-MP, George Washington Memorial Parkway Planting and Vista Management Plans, and the Mather Homestead CLR. With a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology and landscape studies from Smith College, Emma strives to illuminate the dynamic interactions between people and place that shape our natural and built environments. Her work seeks to elevate cultural heritage while enhancing the accessibility and sustainability of significant landscapes for today’s communities and future generations.
Gunay Mammadova

The intersection of preservation, design and sustainability inspires Gunay Mammadovaa to excel in her efforts at Heritage Landscapes. With a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Architecture from Azerbaijan Architecture and Construction University, Gunay brings a diverse background to enhance public spaces and respect cultural heritage. Her recent project contributions include Waveny Park Olmsted trails planning and rehabilitation projects at Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center, Clara Barton National Historic Site, and Independence National Historical Park. Gunay’s prior professional work includes regenerative village masterplans in Azerbaijan and targeted architectural projects focused on equitable and culturally sensitive urban renewal through IcmaLab (CommunityLab), an organization she co-founded.
Megan Turner
Cultural Landscape Historian

Holding a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and a B.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Megan strives to reveal the stories embedded in cultural landscapes. Megan joined the Heritage Landscapes team in 2015 and has contributed research, documentation, and analysis to inform design and management for a range of cultural landscapes and historic sites. Her project contributions include Clara Barton House CLR; Magnolia Plantation Main House CLR; US Embassy Paraguay Landscape Cultural Significance Study; Bloedel Reserve Heritage Landscape Report and more. A focus on piecing together the evolution of sites and situating physical features within physical history intrigues her in the process of recognizing site legibility and heritage significance. Megan actively participates in the Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation.
