Patricia O'Donnell was a keynote speaker at the 2011 Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) conference in Ahmedabad, India. O'Donnell's presentation on the importance of cultural landscapes  consisted of three components:

1. World Heritage Cultural Landscape Definitions, Progress & Relevance: Cultural landscapes have a broad legacy as designed, evolved, relic and associative properties in the world. Simply stated, cultural landscapes are the combined works of humanity and nature. Those of perceived societal value are often preserved or mourned when degraded or lost.
