The World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and Pacific Region (WHITRAP) serves as a non-profit training and research center under the auspices of UNESCO. At their March, 2018 International Expert Meeting on the Implementaion of the Historic Urban Landscape Recommendation in Shanghai, China, Patricia O'Donnell volunteered her time to present on the significance of human settlements as both cultural and natural assets.  In her on-going work to demonstrate the inseparability of human cultural development and biological ecology, her presentation showed the achievement of multiple UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals as well as social, ecological, and economic benefits actualized through designed urban public space.
